CryptMate LE is a password-based free strong encryption program for Windows. CryptMate LE requires Microsoft .NET runtime (1.0 or any upper version) to be present in your system.
To create a strong encrypted archive use 'File / New Archive' menu. The archive creation dialog will show. You can select files and folder to store into the archive. For files in folders the relative path with regard to the directory will be preserved. You can also drag and drop files to the file list from the Windows Explorer.
To create the archive click the Create button. You will be asked for a password and other encryption details in the password dialog.
In the key dialog you need to specify:
The number after the algorithm is the internal key size. Usually the bigger the key size the stronger the encryption is.
All the password/encryption data you provide must be remembered in order to extract and view the archive files later. If you forget the password then your data are lost forever. There are no back doors for A2R archives.
KittyXplorer supports additonally Blowfish and Serpent with various key sizes.
To be sure you typed the key data ok for an archive, try to open and view it after you creation.
While you create an archive, progress information will be shown.
To view a created A2R archive, use the 'File / Open' menu. You will be asked to provide the password data via the password dialog. If you know the right password and the other encryption data, the file contents will be shown. Each folder (if any) is shown in different color. Only files smaller than 10MB can be viewed instantly by the internal viewer that decrypts the data in RAM.

CryptMate LE is limited in showing images to a maximum of 640x480 pixels.
CryptMate LE manipulates strong encryption A2R archives, using AES encryption. More information about the encryption format of A2R archives can be found at KittyXplorer page. See also A2 Tool Help. A2 is a free command-line tool to manipulate the A2R archives.
While CryptMate LE can also compress the archive data, compression has no effect on image types such as JPEG, GIF, PNG etc. The CBC encryption mode removes any correlation patterns and makes compression also not necessary needed for this purpose.
If you run CryptMate LE with a A2R file as argument it will open the key dialog automatically to let you enter the password and view the file.
If you run CryptMate LE with one or more non A2R file as arguments the create dialog will show up automatically.
These features can be used to integrate CryptMate LE with Windows Explorer.
To associate A2R archives with CryptMate LE, double-click on an *.A2R file or select Open (With) from the Windows Explorer context menu. In the Open With dialog of Windows Explorer browse to the cryptmate_le.exe file and select it. Then check the 'Always use ...' box.

To be able to create archives easy we recommend adding a shortcut of CryptMate LE (cryptmate_le.exe) to the 'Send To' folder for the current user. To do this right-click on the Windows Start button and select 'Explorer All Users'. Then find the 'Send To' folder for the current user and create there a shortcut.
KittyXplorer has many more unique capabilities, and can directly view the encrypted archive data, featuring a graphical interface similar to the Windows Explorer. To upgrade to KittyXplorer and benefit from its many features and personalized support, you need to register for a license.
