PocketAES offers strong AES encryption for PocketPC and Windows CE. The files can be safely encrypted and wiped in the device. The encrypted files can then be downloaded from the device in a PC and viewed and decrypted with KittyXplorer or A2 Tool.
Using PocketAES
PocketAES comes in two versions:
- The EXE found in PocketPC-ARMV4 folder of ZIP file can be used with PocketPC devices.
- The EXE found in WINCE-ARMV4I folder of ZIP file should run on most Windows CE devices.
The EXE is stand alone. It does not need any other files to run. Just copy in the SD-Card, or a CE device and run it from there. When PocketAES is run, its main window is shown as in the screenshot below.
Main Window
You need to specify an input folder. All files in the input folder and its subfolders will be encrypted. The already encrypted files (ending in *.a2) are skipped.
If you leave the output folder empty the encrypted files will be created in the same folder where the original file is. If you specify an output folder it will be used to create and place the encrypted files. If the output folder is a subfolder of the input folder then it is skipped (its files and subfolders are not processed).
You can select existing folders, by using the [...] button, which shows a list with all available folder found in the device, as shown below.

You need to specify a password to start encryption. The password is recommended to contain only ASCII letters numbers and special characters. Do not use locale specific letters. Password length is safer only if larger than 20 characters.
By default AES 128 bit is used. You can select from the combo box another AES key size. The smaller the key size the faster the encryption is.
Optionally, you can select to delete the input files after they are encrypted. When you select this option, the files are wiped (with random data) only after they are successfully encrypted. This option is useful when there is not much space in the device (SD-Card), or when you want to make sure the original data are properly removed.
The password field is hidden during encryption. Optionally, you can select to exit the PocketAES automatically when the encryption ends.
The encryption can be stopped at any time, by clicking the [Encrypt / Stop] button. The files encrypted, total files and the errors will be reported.
Encryption is a CPU intensive operation. For big or too many files, encryption consumes a lot of energy in the device. It is recommended to use PocketAES with devices connected to power whenever possible.
Decrypting Files
The files encrypted with PocketAES can be downloaded from the device in a desktop PC and viewed and decrypted with KittyXplorer or A2 Tool.
KittyXplorer
The PocketAES encrypts data using AES with 128, 192, 256 bit keys in CBC mode (without compression and iteration count 1024). Key generation is based on PKCS #5 v1.5 with SHA256.
